Opening of the exhibition „how it became what it is“ in the State University of Music and Performing Arts, Stuttgart

14.03.2016:

On March 7th, 1996 the State University of Music and Performing Arts, from the architectural office of James Stirling, Michael Wilford and Associates, was inaugurated.

Exactly 20 years to the day, the Stuttgart successor firm of James Stirling, Michael Wilford and Associates – ORANGE BLU building solutions – has organized the exhibition „how it became what it is“ depicting the history of the State University. Designs, drawings, artefacts and their background stories are being show-cased. Not just the historical art and architectural aspects are in the foreground, but rather the attempt to illustrate the motives and reasons for artistic decisions. What exactly were the architects thinking? What does the concert hall have in common with Pompeii? Which sort of tricky challenges did the architects have to face and how did they solve them?

The exhibition opening was on the 7th of March, 2016 in level 8 of the State University and can be visited until the end of this year.
